We have been participating in raising money through our school Boosterthon! The Boosterthon is a fundraiser and Fun Run, where we run laps to raise money. Over the last two weeks, our school has raised almost $40,000 in pledge money! Our classroom alone, raised almost $3,500 in pledge money. Today, we participated in the Fun Run. We ran laps, danced, ate popsicles, and celebrated our success! Check out these pictures from today's event!
We have spent the last few weeks working with addition and subtraction in Math Workshop. Throughout this time, we have also been working on adding and subtracting amounts of money too! Our unit included identifying coins, making trades for different amounts, and solving story problems based around money. Check out this website that takes you on an adventure to teach you how coins are actually made. You can also explore coins from around the world. Have fun exploring!
Though we are actually almost finished with our Poetry Unit, we didn't want to miss sharing and celebrating the conclusion of our Persuasive Writing unit from a few weeks ago. Check out our student I's persuasive piece:
We have been writing poetry in Writers Workshop! Have fun exploring these new poetry websites added to our blog! Look to the right to find the link for 'Kid Poems' and 'Giggle Poetry'!
Friday, we had a very special visitor at school. The author of many well-known children's books: Carmen Agra Deedy! We had the honor of listening to her tell a very entertaining story about a boy with a big heart who set out on a journey to find his fortune and save his family. She is an energetic and amazingly descriptive storyteller! We participated by joining in with sounds and motions to help keep us engaged and move the story along. Many of our students bought her books, and met her as she autographed them in person! We encourage you to ask your child about her story and to check out her website. There you can find descriptions of all of the books she has written. We hope you will enjoy one of her books with your family!
...to you and your family! We had a great day back to school today. In the morning, we had the opportunity to share about our winter breaks. Boy oh boy was Santa good to the kids!! We also discussed the meaning of setting New Year resolutions. Please take a moment to discuss your families' resolutions, and how you can help each other work toward reaching those goals.
